Each of the three libraries in the Union County Library System offer cardholders the chance to access their individual library accounts through the “My Account” feature. To access your online account, type in your full 14-digit library card number for “Patron or Alternate ID Number” and then type in the last 6 digits of that number for your PIN, or personal identification number.
Your PIN may be changed after the account has been activated, but if you forget the new PIN, the account must be reset by staff at your home library.
Materials can be renewed online unless one or more of the following conditions exist:
- The card has expired or been blocked
- The material’s renewal limit has been reached
- The material is overdue
- The library user has any unpaid fines
- The material is on hold
All three libraries require cardholders to present their UCLS cards when they borrow materials so that the materials will be checked out to the proper account. There are many Union County residents who have the same name or similar names, and by asking to scan your card library staff members are making sure that your account remains secure.
If you change your PIN and then forget the new number, you must visit your library with your UCLS card to have the account reset.
Each of the three libraries accepts the UCLS library card, and materials may be borrowed or returned at any location. An Internet-linked catalog system allows library users to search for materials at all of the libraries and offers access to individual library accounts.
The Public Library for Union County in Lewisburg, the Herr Memorial Library in Mifflinburg, and the West End Library in Laurelton are the three independent members of the federated Union County (PA) Library System (UCLS) that was created in 1998. Although residents may use any library they choose, Herr Memorial Library primarily serves residents of the Borough of Mifflinburg, the West End Library primarily serves residents of Hartley Township and the Borough of Hartleton, and The Public Library for Union County serves the remainder of county residents and is the system headquarters. Tracy Carey, director of The Public Library for Union County, is the system administrator.
